Biography
CYA is one of the pioneering and most important groups of the domestic hip-hop scene, created in Zemun in the early 1990s. The original line-up consisted of Marko Ilić, Marko Ivezić and Vukašin Stevanović – Vule, and their music became part of the foundation on which Serbian rap developed over the following decades.
The first songs were created at a time when hip-hop in this region practically did not have the built scene, media space or infrastructure it has today. Through its texts, CYA recorded the time in which it was created — the street, society, growing up, friendship, problems and everyday life of the generation that lived first-hand in the 1990s.
First Album "Right from the dead" appeared in the mid-1990s, followed by "Cyazback" from 1998, an edition that further strengthened the group's status on the domestic scene. Songs such as "Cyazback" i I am against all. remained among the recognizable tracks of the period.
Album III., published in the early 2000s, CYA continues the story with songs such as "Rising Boy", “Lavlje srce”, “Socijala” i “Legionar”. It was followed by “Bolje vreme”, an album whose title track became one of the group’s best-known songs and remained popular long after CYA stopped working regularly.
Their importance goes beyond the songs they left behind. CYA belongs to the generation that built the Serbian hip-hop scene in its formative years and helped rap grow from an underground culture into something heard by a much wider audience.
After a long period in which the group was no longer as active as before, 2026 brings a new chapter in CYA’s story. They appear on the track “Pištolji na metkiće” with Smoke Mardeljano, and then release “Biti Čovek” with the group Brade.
That same year, CYA and Brade also performed at Nisville Hip-Hop Stage, joined by DJ Munja and bringing different generations of the Serbian scene together on one stage.
More than three decades after their first recordings, CYA’s songs are still alive, and their return shows that the story of one of the groups that laid the foundations of Serbian rap is not over yet.
